Polygon Sponsor Racing Catamaran

Two Guernsey sailors together with the generous support of their sponsor Polygon have invested in what is now the fastest sailing boat in the Channel Islands. The modern, high tech Nacra F20 Carbon is at the cutting edge of performance catamaran design having been designed by the same team that have put together the new America’s Cup Class. Made almost solely from carbon fibre and with a huge sail plan, the power to weight ratio is mind blowing and trying to keep this all under control are James Read and Matt Atkinson.

James comments; “having raced the Hobie Tiger successfully for 3 seasons we felt that it was time to step up into a bigger more powerful boat, the F20 Carbon was the logical choice and so far the performance has not disappointed!”

The pair are going to compete in a number of local races in Guernsey and Jersey with the aim to break the course records along the way. Sometimes this will not be possible but should the right conditions prevail they certainly have the right tool for the job.

Martin Belcher, Chairman of Polygon comments; “as a local business it is very exciting to be involved with a project like this, the boat looks terrifyingly quick and I am very envious of James and Matt getting to sail it!”

James and Matt put this speed to good use recently winning their first race, the Chris Babbe Pursuit Race.
