Polygon Catamaran: Cannonball Raid 2016

A mixed Channel Islands fleet of Hobie Catamarans and the Nacra ‘Polygon’ were greeted with a building SW F4-5 breeze and sunshine for the inaugural Cannonball Raid, a long distance race around Bailiwick waters.

Polygon led the fleet off the start line and up the beat to Amfre rock. Rounding in pole position ‘Polygon’ went on to extend their lead over the first few miles of the next leg, a fast reach across the Big Russell to Brecqhou, however trailed the Hobie Tiger ‘Raven Russia’ into the Gouliot Passage. Polygon continued to chase Raven Russia back across the Russell, rounding the Fourquies Buoy, then once again fast reaching downwind through the Tobars passage and all the way to Brehon Tower. Rounding Brehon race mark in second place ‘Polygon’ showed their upwind speed and after a few tacks reclaimed first place which was maintained around Lower Heads Buoy and finally Gabriel race mark before an exciting downwind run under spinnaker to take line honours in a time of 1 hour 37 minutes.
